chapter seven

It was the big night. The night we had all been rehearsing for. Tonight was the kick off of the 10th Idol tour. Everyone ran around backstage preparing for the show, which started in a matter of minutes. I sat in the chair of my dressing room, trying my hardest not to throw up everything I’ve eaten today. I don’t know why I was freaking out. I’ve sang in front of people before. I suppose it was because there are over thousands of people in that audience who bought tickets to come watch me perform. What if I let them down? Oh god, I was gonna be sick.

I laid back in the chair and closed my eyes, sighing. I needed to calm down. I heard my door open and looked back to see who it was. Lauren smiled at me as she closed the door behind her. “Hey superstar.” She said smiling as she walked up behind me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I smiled and kissed her arm. “Hey cutie.” I replied. “How ya feeling?” She asked me. I huffed. “Not good, I’m freaking out Lauren.” I admitted. She laughed at me as we looked at ourselves in the mirror. “Why? You have no reason to.” She told me, her hand rubbing my chest. “I’m afraid I’ll mess up.” I said to her.

She turned me around and made me look at her. “Babe, you are amazing. There is absolutely no way you’re going to mess up. Even if you do, so what? It’ll be okay.” She said, smiling softly. I nodded, listening to her. “I guess.” I said. She smiled again. “I’ll be backstage when you’re done. You’ll always have me to lean on.” She said. I smiled a little and leaned forward, kissing her softly. She kissed me back, her hand resting on my cheek. The kiss lasted for a few moments and then I pulled away. “You’re everything to me Laur.” I said to her. “You’re everything to me too, Scotty.” She said, kissing me again.

The whole show had gone on and my set was coming up. I stood in the wings of the stage and tried to calm myself down. Lauren was on stage right now and she was just finishing up. “Are you guys ready for your American Idol?” She said to the crowd. They cheered and she held out her hand, looking at me. I walked out on stage, smiling at the audience. “How y’all doin’ Salt Lake City?” I said. I took Lauren’s hand and kissed her cheek. She squeezed my hand and whispered to me softly. “It’ll be okay.” She smiled as she waved to the audience and walked off stage. I could do this.
